UP Govt Sends Nominations For 6 Vacant MLC Seats To Governor — Know The Names

The BJP has started its preparations for the civic body byelections in mission mode. The situation regarding the bypolls will also be clarified by the party in the next few days. 

The Yogi Adiytanath led-Uttar Pradesh government has sent a proposal of six names to Governor Anandiben Patel for the vacant seats in the legislative council.

According to sources, the BJP has decided on the names of Rajnikant Maheshwari (Former Regional President, Braj BJP), Saket Mishra (Member of Poorvanchal Development Board, son of Nripendra Mishra), Lalji Prasad Nirmal (Ambedkar Mahasabha), Tariq Mansuri (VC AMU), Ramsubhag Rajbhar (Advocate, Azamgarh), Hansraj Vishwakarma (BJP District President, Kashi) have been sent for nomination.

The six seats of the UP Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh have been vacant since June last year.

Sources said that former AAP leader and poet Kumar Vishwas was approached for MLC nomination but he refused the same expressing his desire to go to the Rajya Sabha.

In February, the BJP won the MLC elections in Gorakhpur-Faizabad block graduate, Kanpur block graduate, Bareilly-Moradabad block graduate, and Allahabad-Jhansi block teacher seats.

The BJP faced defeat in the seat of the Kanpur teachers' block. The party stood third in this seat which independent candidate Raj Bahadur Chandel won. He won the MLC election for the sixth time.

 The Samajwadi Party faced defeat in all five seats. 

BJP's Dr. Jai Pal Singh Busy won the graduate seat in the Bareilly-Moradabad segment. He defeated the SP candidate by a margin of 51,257 votes. Singh Busy won the seat for the third time in a row.

Apart from this, BJP's Devendra Pratap Singh defeated SP candidate Karunakant Maurya in the Gorakhpur Faizabad's graduate block seat. He won by a margin of 17,562 votes.

On the other hand, BJP candidate Arun Pathak defeated SP's Kamlesh Yadav by 9331 votes in the Kanpur-Unnao graduate block seat. At the same time, BJP's Babulal Tiwari won the Jhansi-Allahabad teacher block seat. He has defeated independent candidate Dr. Suresh Tiwari by 1403 votes.

Voting for five Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats — three graduates and two teachers constituencies — was held peacefully on January 30. The results were announced on February 3.
