No Non-Veg Food At Wedding, UP Groom & Family Get Angry, Clash With Bride's Side
The groom's father and others started using abusive language over the lack of non-vegetarian food, and when the bride's father objected a clash erupted.
A wedding was called off this week in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, following a clash over the absence of non-veg food at the ceremony. The groom and his relatives, allegedly incensed about the fare served being vegetarian, beat up the bride’s family with sticks, injuring at least six people, India Today reported.
They then stormed off the venue, after which the bride’s family filed a police complaint regarding the assault, also claiming that they had paid the groom's side Rs 4.5 lakh in dowry, according to NDTV.
Aside from this, a tilak and two gold rings worth Rs 20,000 were also reportedly given.
The incident occurred on Thursday, as Abishek Sharma arrived in Anand Nagar village to marry Sushma. After the 'varmala (exchange of garlands)' ceremony, the groom was told that there were no non-vegetarian dishes in the buffet at the wedding.
The groom's father and others then allegedly started using abusive language. When the bride’s father objected, the groom, his father and some other people began beating up the bride’s family with sticks and kicked and punched them, the bride's father said in his complaint to the police.
Wedding Called Off Over Cooler
On Saturday, a wedding in Ballia, UP, was called off, and four people, including the groom, were arrested after an argument broke out over who would sit in front of a desert cooler.
According to police, an argument broke out between wedding guests over the seating arrangement during the function.
In view of the behaviour of the groom's relatives, the bride refused to get married, SHO Pankaj Jaiswal told PTI.
The groom, Hukum Chand Jaiswal, his relative Pankaj, the bride's father, Nand Ji Gupta and her brother Rajesh Gupta have been arrested in the case. Police have invoked Section 126 (wrongful restraint) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Jaiswal said.
