UP Nikay Chunav 2023: BJP Member Dies By Suicide After Being 'Denied' Ticket In Shamli

UP Nagar Nikay Chunav 2023: The victim's family claimed that he took poison on Sunday after the BJP denied him a ticket.

New Delhi: A BJP member allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison after the party denied him a ticket to the urban local body elections in Shamli district, said his family members on Monday, reported news agency PTI. Deepak Saini, a 26-year-old, had asked the BJP for a ticket to fight for the position of chairman of Kandhla Nagar Palika, but the party declined to nominate him. Saini was a member of Kandhla Nagar Palika in the past.
 
Satyendra Tomar, the district president of the BJP in Shamli, confirmed Saini's death.
 
The victim's family claimed that he took poison on Sunday after the BJP denied him a ticket. He was taken to a hospital in a hurry, where he was pronounced dead.
 
There has not yet been a police case filed.

BJP Releases First List Of 70 Candidates

The BJP on Sunday released its first list of 70 candidates for the post of councilors in Moradabad, as well as nominees for the post of municipal president in various Uttar Pradesh districts, for the civic body elections slated to be held in two phases on May 4 and 11.
 
The BJP candidates for the post of Municipal President from Saharanpur district include Shiv Kumar Gupta (Nakud), Kavita Saini (Gangoh), Varsha Mogha Khateek (Saraswa), Meenakshi Swarup (Muzaffarnagar), Umesh Kumar (Khatauli), Narendra Saini (Kandhla), Sethpal Singh (Kairana), and Arvind Sanghal (Shamli).
 
From Bijnor municipality, the candidates include Vinay Deora (Syohara), Vikas Gupta (Chandpur), MP Singh (Noorpur), Devendra Singh (Kiratpur), Nakul Agrawal (Najibabad), Mahavir Saini (Nautaur), Sansar Singh (Sherakot), Leena Singh (Dhamapur), Prahlad Kumar Kushwaha (Nagina), Shashi Jain (Amroha), Kamlesh Arya (Gajraula) Rajpal Saini (Hasanpur) Rajesh Saini (Dhanora), and Shubham Sharma (Bijnor).
 
Jyoti Singh and Pawan Pushpad have been named as candidates for the Bilari and Thakurdwara bodies of Moradabad, respectively. In Rampur Municipality, Mehnaz Jahan, Diksha Gangwar, Chitrak Mittal, and Musaret Mujeev have been announced as candidates for the Tanda, Milak, Bilaspur, and Rampur bodies, respectively.
 
Additionally, Rajesh Shankar Raju, Parul Sharma, and Priyanka Sharma have been selected by the BJP as candidates for the Bahjoi, Sambhal, and Chandausi bodies, respectively.
 
The upcoming local body elections, or the nagar nikay chunav, in Uttar Pradesh are being considered a semi-final before the big poll battle in 2024. The elections will take place in two phases on May 4 and 11, with vote counting scheduled for May 13.
