Abbas Ansari is contesting the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Elections as an SP alliance candidate from Mau assembly seat.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday registered an FIR against gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's son Abbas Ansari, over his controversial statement at a public rally.

In a video, Abbas Ansari can be heard saying: "I have told SP chief Akhilesh Yadav that no transfers or postings will happen for 6 months as 'hisab kitab' will be done with them first and only then their transfer certificates will be stamped."

Abbas is contesting the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Election as an SP alliance candidate from the Mau assembly seat.

ADG Law & Order Prashant Kumar ordered an investigation into the matter. He directed Mau Police to probe the video and take action.

Taking cognisance of the video, Mau SP Ghule Sushil said, "We've registered a case against Mau Sadar constituency candidate Abbas Ansari for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. We have submitted a report to Returning Officer for further action", ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Abbas Andari has defended his remarks, saying: "In the last 6 months, the administration here harassed people by lodging fake cases against them. So all this will be investigated and that is why I have said it."

The Uttar Pradesh assembly election is being held in seven phases. Polling for the sixth phase was held on Thursday and voting for the seventh and final phase will take place on March 7.

Election results for all five poll-bound states will be announced on March 10.
