Supertech Noida Twin Towers To Be Razed On August 21, 7 Days Ahead Of SC Deadline

The towers will be demolished seven days ahead of the Supreme Court's deadline of August 28.

The Supertech twin residential towers, Apex and Ceyane, in Noida will be demolished on August 21. The decision regarding the demolition of Supertech's illegal twin towers was taken in a meeting in which Noida authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari met all the stakeholders to finalise the process of demolition on Tuesday.

The tentative date for demolition of Supertech's illegal twin towers in Noida has been moved from 28 August to 21 August, Noida Authority's CEO Ritu Maheshwari told PTI.

The towers will be demolished seven days ahead of the Supreme Court's deadline of August 28. On May 17, the apex court had asked Noida authority to complete the demolition process by August 28 after extending the demolition process.

"The tentative date for demolition has been moved to 21 August now. The time limit extension granted by the honourable Supreme Court is till 28 August. The decision has been taken in order to create a buffer period so that the work is completed in any case by 28 August," said Maheshwari.

Progress On Demolition

"The company said they are on track for the job. It said it has on its own taken a buffer period of 12 days from the actual date of demolition (August 28). They will be ready 12 days in advance. So it has been decided to shift the demolition date by one week to 21 August," added Maheshwari.

Edifice Engineering, the private agency responsible for the demolition work by Supertech made a presentation on Tuesday to the Noida Authority about the work progress and its preparation.

There will be a pre-demolition structural audit of the identified areas and a report will be made available to CBRI by June 30 by Edifice Engineering, according to the statement from Noida Authority. The company will also submit a plan to the UP pollution control board on how it will dispose of the construction and demolition waste.

On August 30, 2021, the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of the nearly 100-metre tall twin towers which had come up in violation of building bye-laws inside Supertech's Emerald Court group housing society in sector 93A.

Earlier, the towers were scheduled for demolition on 22 May and test blasts were held on 10 April at the site by Edifice Engineering, which has further roped in South African firm Jet Demolitions for the work owing to its expertise in the job.

For the demotion work, Edifice Engineering will identify the areas in the 50 metre area of twin towers and inform the two residents welfare associations - Emerald Court owners and ATS village apartment owners. The company has done Rs 100 crore insurance to cover any damage caused by the demolition. The two buildings together have 915 apartments and 21 shops.
