Rajkumar Vishwakarma Appointed UP DGP, Govt Transfers 5 IPS Officers

Vishwakarma, the second most senior officer in the Uttar Pradesh cadre after 1987 batch IPS officer Mukul Goyal in the order of seniority, has a tenure till May 31, 2023.

New Delhi: Rajkumar Vishwakarma, a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), was appointed the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, government said on Friday.

Rajkumar Vishwakarma was appointed in the place of Acting DGP Devendra Singh Chauhan (1988), who took charge on May 12, 2022, is retiring on Friday, a spokesperson of the UP government said in a statement.

Vishwakarma, the second most senior officer in the Uttar Pradesh cadre after 1987 batch IPS officer Mukul Goyal in the order of seniority, has a tenure till May 31, 2023.

Hailing from Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, Rajkumar Vishwakarma is currently posted as the Director General and Chairman of the Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.

The DGP order letter says Rajkumar Vishwakarma is being given the responsibility of the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board and the acting DGP of Uttar Pradesh till the permanent appointment is made. However, he will not be entitled to any additional salary or allowances for his new role.

Notably, four other officers of the 1988 batch were in the race for the post of DGP. Among them, Vijay Kumar's retirement is in January 2024, Anand Kumar will retire in April 2024, Anil Kumar Agarwal is currently on central deputation and will retire in April while Vishwakarma retires in May 2023.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday transferred five IPS officers.

IPS Anand Kumar has been removed from the post of DG Jail and entrusted with the responsibility of DG Cooperative Cell. Apart from this, SN Sabat, the DG of UP Power Corporation, has been made the Prisons DG.  CBCID DG Vijay Kumar has been given the additional charge of vigilance along with his post. Manmohan Kumar Bashal has been made the Special Director General of Police of UP Power Corporation, and Prashant Kumar has been given the charge of law and order as well as EOW.
