Prayagraj Flood Update: Ganga-Yamuna Above Danger Mark, Thousands Rendered Homeless

The massive floods in Prayagraj have affected more than one lakh people. The worst impact is visible in the coastal areas of the Ganga.

New Delhi: Prayagraj has been receiving incessant rain for the past 24 hours and it has severely impacted normal life. With flood at doorsteps, rain has added to the woes of people living in those areas. Relief and rescue operations have been affected due to incessant rain. 

Rivers Ganga and Yamuna are flowing above the danger mark for the fourth consecutive day today. Ganga is about one and a half meters above the danger mark, while the Yamuna is about one meter above. Flood water is entering new areas every hour and relief and rescue operations are proving to be insufficient.

As the situation in Prayagraj deteriorates, the worst impact is visible in coastal areas of the Ganga. Many buildings in the Zhusi area adjoining the city have been completely submerged in floodwater.

People's ration supply is also decreasing and as of now, the government personnel are not able to reach them. 

Floods in Prayagraj have affected more than one lakh people as thousands are rendered homeless. Many have taken shelter in relief camps.

All routes leading to Sangam have sunk and are submerged in floodwater. Thousands of devotees who come every day for visit and worship and take a dip of faith at the Sangam have to return disappointed.

Meanwhile, for safety purposes, all routes to Sangam have already been barricaded and closed.
