PM Modi Discusses Flood Situation With Local Administration Of Varanasi, Assures Help
With regards to the floods situation in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held detailed discussions with the local administration.
New Delhi: Several districts in Uttar Pradesh are currently reeling under floods as incessant rain continues. Floods have wreaked havoc in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency of Varanasi as well.
Taking stock of the entire situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held detailed discussions with the local administration of Varanasi and assured all possible help.
The situation in Varanasi is worsening after the Ganges river is flowing 13 centimetres above the danger mark. Water from the Ganges has entered dozens of localities across the Varuna region including Maruti Nagar, Janakinagar, Samarth Ghat, and Assi Ghat. Houses have been completely submerged underwater.
People are leaving their homes and heading to safer places. NDRF teams are continuously engaged in relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas.
Assi Ghat Submerged
Assi Ghat of Varanasi has been completely submerged, with the current water level being above ten feet. All activities on the Ghat have come to a standstill. The water from the river Ganges has also entered the nearby restaurants, shops, and houses. Boats are plying on the streets. The flood crisis along with the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people from earning a livelihood in these areas.
In Varanasi as well as in the city of Prayagraj, water from the river Ganges and the Yamuna are wreaking havoc, owing to extreme rainfall in the region.
Varanasi administration has deployed NDRF and SDRF teams, which are continuously carrying out relief and rescue work.
