Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit on Friday to boost investment in the state in the coming years. The summit is being attended by thousands of investors and delegates from across the globe. It also witnessed the participation of Union ministers and ambassadors of various countries along with leading industrialists.

During the event PM Modi said, "Recently the workers who were trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel were successfully rescued. I congratulate the government and administration of the state for the dynamic work done by them."

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami while addressing the gathering at the event said, "We had set a target of signing MoUs worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore with investors at the Global Investors Summit. I am happy to say that we have signed investment proposals more than our target. So far, investments worth Rs 44,000 crore have been made on the ground. This will create lakhs of jobs."

This Summit is a step towards establishing the state as a new investment destination. The theme for this two-day Summit is 'Peace to Prosperity'.

Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday, CM Dhami reviewed the preparations for the summit. The city of Dehradun has been beautified over a fortnight for the event. Arterial roads were renovated and the damaged dividers and pavements were repaired, reported PTI.

CM Dhami held numerous roadshows in major cities across India and in the UK's London and Birmingham to lure investors to the state. Investment MoUs totalling more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore have been signed already with several companies for investment. Now, the MoUs that have the potential to create employment opportunities are slowly being implemented, as reported by PTI.
