Lucknow: Nine Dead As Wall Collapses Amid Heavy Rain. UP CM Announces Ex Gratia Of Rs 4 Lakh For Victims

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for those who died in the wall collapse incident.

New Delhi: At least nine people were killed after the boundary wall of an Army enclave collapsed in Lucknow's Dilkusha area due to heavy rains. One person was pulled out alive from the debris, police said on Friday.

"Some labourers were living in huts outside an Army enclave in the Dilkusha area. Owing to heavy overnight rains, the boundary wall of the Army enclave collapsed," Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Piyush Mordia told PTI.

"We reached the spot around 3 am. Nine bodies were pulled out from the debris and one person was rescued alive," he said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for those who died in the wall collapse incident.

“The dead, casual labourers and their families, were sleeping when the collapse occurred early on Friday in the state capital Lucknow,” said state's deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak.

"We are investigating the reasons behind the wall collapse," Pathak told local media.

According to the meteorological department, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning occurred at a few places in the eastern part of the state and at isolated places in the western region. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in several parts of the state.

Several parts of the state received very heavy rainfall since Thursday and schools and colleges were shut because of flooding, news agency Reuters reported citing local media.
