Lucknow University Student Dies By Suicide In Hostel, Incident Caught On Cam

A student of Lucknow University died by suicide in her hostel room. The sequence of her death was recorded on her mobile phone.

A student of the College of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow University, died by suicide in her room at Tilak Hostel and and the incident was captured on her mobile phone camera. Police officials told news agency IANS that her cellphone camera recorded the entire sequence of her death. As per the footage retrieved from her phone, she hung herself from a ceiling fan on Wednesday evening. Officials added that the deceased had some disputes with a person living in Varanasi and possibly it was out of that frustration that she chose this extreme step.

The room was shared by two other girls as well and the incident took place when both of them were out of the room for some time. Upon returning, they found their room locked from the inside and with the help of hostel staff, the windowpanes were broken in order to open the door.

Manisha Singh, Additional DCP (Central), in a statement, told IANS, that upon receiving the information, the police team rushed to the hostel. She added, "They (police) brought down her body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Her parents and local guardians have been informed about the incident."

The spokesperson of Lucknow University, Durgesh Srivastava, in a press statement, stated that the deceased was a resident of Prayagraj and was pursuing her fifth semester in the Bachelor of Fine Arts course. Srivastava added, "The reason for the extreme step was not clear yet and the police are investigating the case," as reported by IANS.
