UP Court Declares Ex-Minister Swami Prasad Maurya, His Sanghamitra As Absconders

A Court has issued orders against former UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya and his daughter Sanghmitra Maurya for failing to appear in connection with the Deepak Kumar Swarnkar case.

The MP-MLA Court in Lucknow has issued orders under Section 82 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against former Uttar Pradesh minister and national president of Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, his daughter and former BJP MP from Badaun, Sanghmitra Maurya, along with three others in connection with the Deepak Kumar Swarnkar case.

ACJM III MP-MLA Alok Verma's court issued the orders after repeated summons and warrants failed to secure their presence in court. The court had previously issued three summons, two bailable warrants, and one non-bailable warrant against the accused, but they did not appear before the court.

Deepak Kumar Swarnkar Case Against Swami Prasad Maurya, Sanghmitra Maurya

Deepak Kumar Swarnkar had filed a case against Sanghmitra Maurya for fraudulently marrying without obtaining a divorce. He also lodged complaints of assault, abuse, and conspiracy. Neither Swami Prasad Maurya nor Sanghmitra Maurya attended any court hearings, leading the MP-MLA Court to declare them absconders.

Earlier, the Maurya family approached the High Court against the MP-MLA Court's decision. However, Justice Jaspreet Singh reprimanded them, stating that there was sufficient evidence against them and that they must return to the MP-MLA Court. Dissatisfied with this ruling, the Maurya family took the matter to the Supreme Court, where it was not taken seriously.

Advocates Rohit Kumar Tripathi and Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, representing the plaintiff Deepak Kumar Swarnkar, expressed their gratitude towards the court, stating, "We have complete faith that justice will be served soon."

Maurya was previously a part of the Bhartiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. He also joined the later Samajwadi Party in January 2022 and resigned from its primary membership in February 2024 to float his own outfit.
