LS Polls: Former UP DGP Vijay Kumar Joins BJP With His Wife, Says 'Law And Order Improved' Under Modi, Yogi

Former DGP of UP, Vijay Kumar Singh said, Law and order have improved under the state leadership of PM Modi and CM and he will be able to work for the country in a better way by joining the party.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Vijay Kumar Singh along with his wife, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. Their entry into the BJP fold was marked by a formal joining ceremony in Lucknow attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. 

"Law and order have improved under the state leadership of PM Modi and CM. I will be able to work for the country in a better way by joining the party," ANI quoted the former DGP as saying.

Giving a fillip to the political temperature, Several leaders from Samajwadi Party, Congress, and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have also joined the BJP on Monday. State Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed confidence in the BJP's ability to secure victory in all parliamentary seats of the state.

Pathak further said, "Several political leaders have joined the BJP today. Former DGP Vijay Kumar has also joined the party today. BSP's National spokesperson Dharamveer ji along with others joined the party today. We will work towards winning all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh", as per ANI.

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, spanning seven phases beginning April 19. Uttar Pradesh sends the maximum number of MPs, 80, to Parliament. Against this backdrop, the BJP has forged an alliance with parties like the RLD, SBSP, Apna Dal (S), and Nishad Party, consolidating its position in the state.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav has aligned with the opposition bloc, while Mayawati's BSP opted to go solo. Uttar Pradesh's electorate will participate in all seven phases of voting, spread across April, May, and June.

Notably, Meerut will go to the polls on April 26, during the second phase. As the electoral journey unfolds, all eyes will be on Uttar Pradesh, with the results slated for counting on June 4.
