Gyanvapi Mosque: Win For The Hindu Community, Petitioner Says After Court Order

Representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi mosque case, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain stated: "The court rejected the Muslim side's petition and said the suit is maintainable."

New Delhi: A single bench of district Judge AK Vishvesh of the Varanasi District and Sessions Court on Monday ordered that the civil suits challenging the title of the Gyanvapi mosque and the land surrounding is maintainable.

Representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi mosque case, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain stated: "The court rejected the Muslim side's petition and said the suit is maintainable. The next hearing of the case is on Sep 22."

"It's a win for the Hindu community. The next hearing is on Sep 22. It's a foundation stone for the Gyanvapi temple. Appeal to people to maintain peace," Sohan Lal Arya, a petitioner in the case was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.

"Bharat is happy today, my Hindu brothers & sisters should light diyas to celebrate," says petitioner from Hindu side Manju Vyas as she dances and celebrates the Gyanvapi Shringar Gauri verdict.

Muslim cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed told ABP News that the legal team will study the verdict of the Varanasi District and Sessions court and take further action.

"This is a legal issue, which has to be decided in the court itself," he told ABP News.

"Following the Babri Masjid Judgment, the Supreme Court had cited the Worship Act and it had appeared that the issue of Temple-Mosque in the country is over. But even then such issues are coming...Our legal team will study and take the next step. People have been offering Namaz there for hundreds of years," he added.

The petition was submitted by five ladies asking for permission to regularly worship Hindu gods whose statues are said to be on the Gyanvapi mosque's exterior wall.

The Gyanvapi mosque, according to the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, is a Waqf property, raising doubts about the validity of the claim.

Last month, district judge AK Vishvesh deferred the order in the sensitive communal case until September 12.
