Gangster-Turned-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Laid To Rest In Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur

Mukhtar Ansari, the gangster-turned-politician, who passed away on Thursday due to cardiac arrest was laid to rest in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur today.

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was laid to rest today at his ancestral Kali Bagh graveyard in Mohammadabad, located in the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. Mukhtar Ansari passed away on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest. Thousands of people gathered to participate in his last rites and joined his funeral procession in Ghazipur. Despite, regular announcements by the police to avoid overcrowding and maintain peace, the people gathered there did not disperse and continued to walk towards the graveyard. 

In view of his funeral, several police personnel were deployed along the route leading from his home to the Mohammadbad graveyard, where his last rites were performed, ANI reported citing the District Magistrate Gazipur Aryaka Akhoury. She also stated that police were deployed outside the burial ground to maintain law and order, as people were gathered at the site to pay their respects to Ansari.

Heavy Police Deployment Ahead Of Mukhtar Ansari's Funeral

District Magistrate Gazipur Aryaka Akhoury stated: "The preparations are complete. Police have been deployed on a 600-metre route leading from his home to the graveyard. The movement of the people is being watched. The late rites would be concluded peacefully."

DIG Varanasi OP Singh, when asked about Ansari's funeral preparations stated: "Adequate forces have been deployed at every nook and corner. We are also coordinating with his (Mukhtar Ansari's) family members.

As per media reports, the last rites were attended by the family, close relatives, and other people who participated in the funeral. Additionally, the people who threw soil were also on the list of attendees. Throwing soil is considered to be a way of paying respect and bidding a final goodbye to their loved ones.

After the postmortem was conducted at Banda's Rani Durgavati Medical College, the body of the 63-year-old gangster was taken to his residence in Ghazipur on Friday night amid tightened security and heavy police deployment.

Mukhtar Ansari died in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Banda on Thursday. He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of uneasiness. While reports suggest he died due to a heart attack, Mukhtar Ansari's family claims that he was "given poison in the food."

According to the official release from the hospital,  the gangster was brought to the hospital at around 8:25 pm on March 28, where he was attended by a team of nine doctors before he died.

Mukhtar Ansari's elder brother Sibgatullah Ansari, claimed on March 29 that the administration did not inform him about his brother's death and that he learned about it through the media.
