Background

Gonda Train Accident: At least 8 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda. The train was going from Chandigarh to Assam's Dibrugarh. Three persons have died in the accident, while 30 sustained injuries, confirmed UP Health Minister and Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak. The incident occurred in the Mankapur Vidhan Sabha area.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma and his UP counterpart Yogi Adityanath have ordered their officials to provide immediate relief to the people injured in the accident. While Yogi Adityanath has asked all government hospitals in the region to be prepared to take in the injured for treatment, Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered his officials to ensure that victims from Assam receive proper treatment.

The accident comes within just a month of the Sealdah-Agartala Kanchanjunga Express accident, which claimed 11 lives.

The AAP, meanwhile, has claimed that railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was busy making reels as people lost lives in train accidents. It said that the Modi government's "inefficiency" was responsible for the deaths of people.

Relief Work Underway

Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak will visit the accident site soon. While SDRF teams are already at the site of the accident, NDRF teams are being sent from Lucknow and Balrampur to Gonda for the rescue and relief operation.

A 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances have been deployed for rescue operations in the train accident and orders have been issued to send more ambulances to the spot.

A special train has been arranged for the stranded passengers. The special train will take them to Dibrugarh in Assam now.

Gonda Train Accident LIVE Updates: 4 Critically Injured People Referred To Lucknow Trauma Centre

Dr MW Khan, Medical Superintendent, ASMC Gonda said that four injured people, who were in critical condition have been referred to Lucknow Trauma Centre for further treatment. These four persons were in critical condition.

"Around 12 injured people were admitted to the district hospital. Out of those, four persons were in critical condition. After providing them with basic medical treatment, they have been referred to Lucknow in ambulances with life-support facility. At administration level, the arrangements were in Lucknow Trauma Centre and specialists are available there," he said.

Gonda Train Accident LIVE Updates: Rajasthan LoP Tika Ram Jully Blames Centre For 'Negligence'

After the derailment of the Dibrugarh- Chandigarh Express train, Rajasthan LoP, and Congress leader Tika Ram Jully blamed Centre's "negligence" for it.

"Highways and airports are collapsing and instances of train accidents are increasing. They (central government) made several big promises and even increased the fare. Recently, another train accident took place and they (central government) said that they will bring a system to stop train accidents. Still, this is the condition," he said.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted about the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express accident, saying "Shocked to learn about the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train accident in UP today. I am monitoring the situation closely. No casualties from Assam reported as of now. Teams are on standby for support. We will do our best to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone."

The rescue operation after the coaches of the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express derailed today has been completed. 

As per North Eastern Railway General Manager Saumya Mathur, 2 people died and 31 got injured.
