Congress Believes Members Of Only One Family Have Right Over Bharat Ratna: PM Modi — WATCH

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the Congress and its allies believe that only members of a specific family are entitled to the Bharat Ratna.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a gathering at a ground-breaking ceremony for over 14,000 projects across Uttar Pradesh, took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of monopolising the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. The event, heralding projects worth more than Rs 10 lakh crore, provided the backdrop for Modi's remarks, highlighting recent conferral of the Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh, a stalwart figure in Indian politics known for his advocacy for farmers' rights.

"Just a few days ago, our government had the privilege of awarding Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh, the messiah of farmers," Modi stated, underscoring the significance of the honour for millions of farmers and labourers across the nation. However, he lamented that the Congress and its allies fail to recognise this significance, alleging their belief that only members of a specific family are entitled to the prestigious award.

"You must have seen that when (name of) Chaudhary Charan Singh was being discussed in the Parliament, how the Congress people made it difficult to even speak about Chaudhary Saheb," remarked Modi, highlighting the perceived obstruction by the Congress during discussions related to Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Modi further chastised the Congress for its historical neglect, pointing out that the party did not confer the Bharat Ratna on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for decades, choosing instead to honour members of its own family. Dr. Ambedkar, a towering figure in India's social and political landscape, was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990.

"Congress people believe that the members of only one family have the right over Bharat Ratna," he remarked.

"The Congress does not want to respect the poor, Dalits, backward classes, farmers and labourers because they do not exist in its thinking," Modi asserted, accusing the party of disregarding the interests of marginalised communities.

PM Modi Honours Chaudhary Charan Singh's Legacy

Reflecting on Chaudhary Charan Singh's legacy, Modi praised the former Prime Minister's principled stance against political bargaining, yet expressed disappointment that some parties in Uttar Pradesh, ostensibly aligned with his legacy, had strayed from his ideals.

"Chaudhary Saheb left the post of PM but did not compromise with his principles," Modi remarked, acknowledging Singh's steadfast commitment to his beliefs.

In conclusion, Modi reiterated the enduring impact of Chaudhary Charan Singh's advocacy for small farmers, asserting that his government remains committed to empowering farmers across the country, inspired by Singh's legacy.
