NCW Takes Suo Motu Cognisance Of Krishnagiri Sexual Assault Case At Fake NCC Camp

Earlier, Krishnagiri district's Collector, K.M. Sarayu, confirmed the arrest of 11 individuals, including the main suspect responsible for organizing the fake camp.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the Krishnagiri sexual assault case involving a young girl at a fraudulent National Cadet Corps (NCC) camp. Acting on media reports titled "13-year-old Girl Sexually Abused at Fake NCC Camp," the commission has directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Chennai, to ensure a thorough, fair, and expedited investigation.

The commission has also instructed the DGP to file charges under relevant laws and has requested a detailed action taken report from both the state police and the Tamil Nadu government within three days.

According to reports, the incident, which took place in Bargur, Krishnagiri district, involved a Class 8 student who was reportedly sexually assaulted at a bogus NCC camp. Along with this, 12 other girls also reportedly faced sexual harassment at the camp. The district's Collector, K.M. Sarayu, confirmed the arrest of 11 individuals, including the main suspect responsible for organizing the fake camp. The accused face charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to the NCC headquarters, no authorized NCC camp was held in the region, and those involved in the incident have no affiliation with the NCC. This clarification came after reports suggested a potential link between the organization and the crime. The district administration confirmed that swift action was taken, with arrests beginning on Sunday and continuing into Monday.

The case came to light when the victim confided in her parents, prompting them to file a complaint with the local police. Further inquiries are being made to uncover any other violations connected to the fake camps, as the district administration and Chief Education Officer delve deeper into the matter.
