Resident Doctors Of Three Delhi Hospitals Boycott Routine Services Over Delay In NEET-PG Counselling

Routine services at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital will remain suspended as part of the protest.

New Delhi: Intensifying the protest called by the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) over the delay in NEET-PG 2021 counselling, resident doctors at three government hospitals in Delhi have boycotted routine services.

Routine services at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Hardinge Hospital will remain suspended as part of the protest. However, emergency services will continue as usual.

Resident doctors at RML, Safdarjung and Lady Hardinge Hospital also warned of boycotting the emergency services if NEET-PG counselling is not completed soon. "Whatever inconvenience it causes to the public will be attributed to the administration," they said.

These doctors have been demanding the NEET-PG counselling of resident doctors to be completed before the onset of the anticipated third wave of Covid-19 so that the doctors who are working get more helping hands.

According to RDA, there is already a shortage of doctors and delaying the NEET-PG counselling would add on to the pressure.

The Resident Doctors' Association at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has warned the administration that its members will withdraw back off from the emergency services if no concrete step is taken by the stakeholders to ensure immediate completion of NEET-PG counselling.

RDA said, ''Due to the sensitive response of the governing bodies responsible for delay in NEET-PG, 2021 counselling, we are forced to boycott all routine services in RML Hospital from December 3 till the time our genuine grievances are fulfilled."

It added, "All emergency services in the hospital will run as usual. However, if the parties concerned do not take any concrete steps to ensure immediate completion of NEET-PG Counselling 2021, we will be forced to take the decision of discontinuing the emergency services as well.''

The RML Resident Doctors Association said that the decision has been taken in consensus with the national and state RDAs. An action plan will be decided after meeting with them. The RDA said with the possibility of an imminent new Covid-19 wave, the counselling process must be started at the earliest to prevent the collapse of the health care system.
