Powering A Brighter Future For Punjab: Zero Bills, Real Relief

Spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, this forward-thinking scheme is putting money back in the pockets of hardworking Punjabis.

Imagine opening your electricity bill and finding the amount due to be… zero! For nearly 90% of domestic power users in Punjab, this is no longer a dream—it’s reality. Thanks to another groundbreaking initiative by the Maan Government, families across the state are enjoying major relief as their electricity bills vanish, lightening financial burdens and brightening their homes in more ways than one.

Spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, this forward-thinking scheme is putting money back in the pockets of hardworking Punjabis. Under this initiative, any household using less than 600 units of electricity over two months receives a bill with nothing to pay. That’s right—no hidden costs, no complicated terms, just free power for those who need it most. And with around 90 lakh families benefiting from the program, it’s clear this is no small gesture.

51 lakh households saw their electricity bills drop to zero till date. Can you imagine the collective sigh of relief across the state? This initiative is a bold move in the right direction, not only helping families cut down on living costs but also encouraging everyone to be more energy conscious.

Strengthening Punjab’s Power Infrastructure

It’s not just about zero bills—it’s about the power of responsible governance. When he took office, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann pledged that every household would receive 300 units of free electricity each month. This initiative officially launched on July 1, 2022, has seen a positive response, with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) reporting that about 73.4 lakh domestic consumers receive their electricity bills every two months. The number of new consumers continues to rise, with nearly 90% of households now enjoying a "Zero Bill."

Punjab has seen significant advancements in its power distribution network. For better electricity delivery, robust infrastructure has been developed, including the establishment of 66 kVA substations every 10 kilometers. Notably, Punjab is home to the country’s first 400 kVA ring main system, which serves the entire state. Alongside this, a vast network of electricity feeders and distribution transformers has been laid out.

A Historic Purchase for Sustainable Power

In a historic move, the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government has acquired a 540-megawatt thermal power plant owned by GVK Company in Goindwal Sahib for ₹1,080 crore. This facility, now named Guru Amar Das Thermal Plant, adds to the state’s energy portfolio, which includes three government and two private thermal plants. As a result, Punjab is witnessing high-quality, uninterrupted electricity supply.

This initiative reflects the government’s larger vision for a sustainable, inclusive, and thriving Punjab, where people’s needs come first.

Stay tuned, Punjab! With the leadership of Maan government, the lights of prosperity are on—and there’s no turning them off!
