Mira Road Tension: Cops Warn Against Clash-Related Social Media Posts After Bulldozer Action

The police have warned action against any social media post or forwards on the clashes that erupted in Mumbai's Mira Road area.

A day after bulldozers demolished illegal instructions on Mumbai's Mira Road which witnessed communal tension after a clash erupted between two communities a night before the grand Ayodhya Ram Mandir consecration ceremony, the police have now warned against any social media post on the clashes to maintain harmony.

The Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar Police has issued a note asking all group admins to take note that no forwards, jokes or videos related to clashes should be forwarded on social media to maintain communal harmony. The police warned that action will be taken against group admins, if this order is violated.

This comes after the civic body on Tuesday razed illegal structures and encroachments in the Naya Nagar area. The local authorities said the action was taken on directions of the Maharashtra government.

"Illegal structures and encroachments were razed by bulldozers in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road where Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha celebrations were stone pelted. After instructions from the Maharashtra government, action is being taken by the Municipal Corporation with the help of the police," the Maharashtra government said.

Tension unfolded in the area a night before the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla's idol in the newly constructed Ayodhya Ram Temple and stone-pelting was reported in the area when a procession was taken out to celebrate the 'Pran Pratishtha ceremony. The Mumbai Police reacted swiftly and contained the situation and 12 people were arrested for their involvement. The police also filed an FIR against unknown individuals for outraging religious sentiments.

According to a PTI report, the altercation started at 10:30 pm on Sunday when a group of 10 to 12 people on bikes and cars conducted a rally from Naya Nagar. The situation heated up when those chanting praises of Lord Ram, raising slogans and bursting firecrackers during the rally were attacked by locals brandishing wooden sticks.
