'Amitabh Bachchan Is 82, Ratan Tata 86': Supriya Sule Hits Back At Ajit Over Sharad Pawar Age Jibe

Supriya Sule’s strong worded attack comes in response to Ajit Pawar’s remark where he said it’s time for Sharad Pawar to retire from politics and pass on the baton to the younger generation.

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) working president Supriya Sule on Wednesday hit back at Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar for taking a dig at her father and party veteran Sharad Pawar over his age. “Some people are saying that people who are senior now should give us blessings. Why should they stop working? Ratan Tata is 86 years old. Serum Institute's Cyrus Poonawala's age is 84. Amitabh Bachchan is 82,” Sule said while addressing the party gathering in Mumbai.

“Disrespect us, but not our father. This fight is against the BJP government. BJP is the most corrupt party in the country,” Sule added.

Taking potshots at the saffron party, Sule said, “They called the Nationalist Congress Party the 'Naturally Corrupt Party'... But when in need they take help from the NCP. The BJP is the most corrupt party and its not just me but others as well who are saying this. BJP made allegations about a ₹70,000 crore scam, bank scam and many more. Someone told me 'NCP Ka ICE ho gya'- ICE stands for Income Tax, CBI and ED.”

Sule’s strong worded attack comes in response to Ajit Pawar’s remark where he said it’s time for Sharad Pawar to retire from politics and pass on the baton to the younger generation.

“You portrayed me as a villain in front of everyone. I still have deep respect for him (Sharad Pawar)...But you tell me, IAS officers retire at 60...even in politics - BJP leaders retire at 75. You can see the example of LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi...That allows the new generation to rise...You (Sharad Pawar) give us your blessings."

"The other day, he went to YB Chavan memorial...I have also been there...but you are 83, aren't you going to stop? Give us your blessings and we will pray that you live a long life," he added.

Speaking about the norms of society, he highlighted that even a farmer's son is given the responsibility to look after the farm once he reaches the appropriate age, while the elders step back to the role of an adviser.

"Are we not capable of running a government? We are. In Maharashtra politics, among those four to five key leaders, doesn't my name figure, even if it is at the end? Then, why are we not given the blessings? Even at a farmer's home, a son who reaches the age of 25 is told to look after the farm, while the elderly steps back to the role of an adviser. This is the norm," Maharashtra Deputy CM said.
