Now, Landslide Hits Vilangad In Wayanad's Neighbouring Kozhikode: 1 Person Missing, 15 Families Stranded

As the water level in Kakkayam Dam rose dramatically both shutters were raised by four feet in stages prompting a caution advisory for those on the banks of the Kuttyadippuzha river.

One person is reported missing in a landslide that struck Malayangad area of Vilangad in Vadakara taluk, Kozhikode district. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is leading the search operation and the landslide swept away the Malayangad bridge.

The landslide also partially destroyed four houses along the riverbank and leaving 15 families stranded. No casualties have been reported and residents along the river have been relocated to safer areas.

Additionally, about 80 meters of the Kaitapo-Anorammal Valliad road was submerged in mud, prompting the relocation of seven families. In Maruthonkara village of Kutiadu, landslides near Pasukadav have exacerbated the situation. The inundation of the Kadanthara river has forced the evacuation of riverside residents in Prikanthod, Center Muk, and Peedikappara areas to shelters set up in paddy fields.

As the water level in Kakkayam Dam rose dramatically, both shutters were raised by four feet in stages, prompting a caution advisory for those on the banks of the Kuttyadippuzha river. Heavy rains have also pushed the water levels in Poonur Puzha, Mahipuzha, Kuttyadippuzha, Chaliyar, and Cherupuzha rivers to dangerous levels, leading authorities to advise coastal residents to remain vigilant.

In light of the heavy rains, tourism has been banned in the district, and operations of quarries have been proposed to be halted. Currently, 854 people from 196 families are residing in 41 relief camps across Kozhikode district. Hundreds more have been relocated to relatives' homes, and residents in landslide-prone areas have been urged to evacuate.

Meanwhile, heavy rains have triggered significant landslides in the hilly regions of Wayanad district, with hundreds feared trapped beneath the debris.

In addition to the NDRF, rescue operations involve teams from the Kerala Fire Force, police, forest department, revenue officials, the Army, and local self-government bodies.
