Nitish Kumar's Bizarre Remark On Sex Education Sparks Row: Video
During a debate on a caste-based economic survey in the Bihar assembly, CM Nitish Kumar's remarks on women's education to bring down the state's birth rate have stirred controversy
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's comments on Tuesday about women's education to bring down the state's birth rate have stirred controversy. During a debate on a caste-based economic survey in the Bihar assembly, CM Nitish Kumar discussed the birth rate of the state linking the issue with educating the girl child. However, his choice of words regarding the same is garnering reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Reacting to the remarks, Nikki Hembrom, a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Bihar, expressed her disapproval, saying, "Whatever he was saying he could have said it with dignity. He is insensitive and he does not respect women."
"No parliamentary or assembly member has ever used such derogatory language against women. I saw the video, what he said was not just shameful, but worth crticising. It's shameful, and he (Nitish Kumar) should resign without delay and apologise to all the citizens of the country. If he doesn't, demands should be raised to sack him," Union Minister of State Ashwini Choubey remarked.

Nitish Kumar's comments came during a discussion on raising quotas for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the state. Kumar announced his intention to increase reservations for these groups, a move that had been eagerly anticipated following the government's caste survey.
According to the survey, OBCs, including the extremely backward classes sub-group, make up 63 percent of Bihar's population, while SCs and STs together account for slightly over 21 percent. The report also revealed that more than a third of families in Bihar are living on a monthly income of Rs 6,000 or less, with the percentage of SC-ST families at 42 percent.
Kumar, addressing the assembly, proposed raising the reservation for SCs and STs from 17 percent to 22 percent and increasing the OBC reservation from 50 percent to 65 percent. He stated that the necessary legislation to implement these changes would be introduced during the ongoing assembly session.
