Andhra Pradesh To Install Solar Rooftop Systems On All Government Buildings By 2025

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday between NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP).

In a significant step toward promoting renewable energy, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced the installation of solar rooftop systems on all government buildings by the end of 2025. This initiative is part of a broader effort to harness solar energy for sustainable development in the state.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday between NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP). The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, according to a report on IANS.

The state government has expressed its commitment to promoting solar rooftop systems across both the domestic sector and government institutions, under the Union government's PM Surya Ghar scheme. The scheme aims to "solarize" government buildings, ensuring that they meet their energy requirements through environmentally sustainable solar power, as per the report.

In the first phase of this ambitious project, it is proposed to implement 300 MW of solar rooftop systems across various government buildings. NVVN will be responsible for installing these systems and supplying solar power at a levelized tariff that will remain uniform for 25 years. Moreover, NVVN will also take on the responsibility of operating and maintaining the solar rooftop systems for the entire 25-year period at no additional cost.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu hailed the MoU as a significant step toward a greener future, aligning with the guidelines set by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. He emphasized that this shift to solar energy would not only result in substantial savings but also play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, Naidu is set to unveil vision Vikasitha Andhra Pradesh 2047 on lines of Viksit Bharat on October 2.
