Andhra Pradesh: Dancer Bites Head Of Hen During Dance Performance, FIR Lodged

Based on the viral video, a complaint was lodged by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India.

The Andhra Pradesh Police have registered an FIR following the brutal killing of a hen, whose head was bitten off by a performer during a public dance performance. The act was witnessed by children and later shared on social media prompting swift action from authorities.

Based on the viral video, a complaint was lodged by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India. Following this, a FIR was filed in response.

According to the complaint, the heinous act was carried out deliberately by the performer in full public view. The police registered the FIR under sections 429 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC), as well as Section 11(1) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, targeting both the performer and the event organizers.

"Those who abuse animals are often shown to have no regard for human life, either. For the sake of everyone's safety, it is imperative that members of the public report cases of cruelty to animals such as this," stated Sinchana Subramanyan, PETA India Cruelty Response Coordinator, in a report by Mathrubhumi. Subramanyan emphasised the importance of public vigilance and the reporting of such acts to protect both animals and human communities.

Anakapalli Superintendent of Police K. V. Murali Krishna was commended for his decisive action in directing the registration of the FIR, as per the report.

However, the incident has sparked widespread outrage, in the region.

Meanwhile, despite annual bans, Andhra Pradesh continues to witness cockfighting during the Sankranthi harvest festival. In the Godavari and Krishna delta areas, two roosters, fitted with razor blades on their spurs, engage in fights to the death in this brutal blood sport. Additionally, crores of rupees are unofficially exchanged through betting as part of the Sankranthi celebrations.
