Here's What The Players Said During The Presentation Ceremony
Jasmine Paolini:
"Today I'm a little bit sad. I try to keep smiling because I have to remember that today is still a good day. I did a final of Wimbledon. I was looking at the TV as a kid, looking at the finals, cheering for Federer I have to say. But to be here right now, it's crazy. It's crazy and I think I enjoyed every moment here. It's been a beautiful two weeks."
"I have still to realise that I did final in Wimbledon. It's an amazing thing. It's been an incredible year. I'm enjoying. I hope to continue like that with this level of tennis. I'm going to try to work to keep this focus, this level. Sometimes I'm a little bit scared to dream too much. I have to say that. I don't know. I'm going back, trying to practise, to stay in the present, as I said many times. This is the goal for me, my team, to try to keep this level as much as possible."
"I said, OK, take some time and try to relax and to come back in the second set stronger. I felt like, OK, the first set was bad, but I have to be calm and to find solution. I have to be positive and try to my emotions a little bit on the side. I have to focus on what I have to do."
"I think she served better than me, of course. I also think she can move the ball very good, very well. She can take really great angles with the shots. She's a very complete player. She's so good. I think, in the last couple of months, but also in the last year, I'm doing this better."
"I believe more in myself. I improve serve. I think I improve the return. Also, I think physically I'm better than two years ago. I'm working since one year and a half with a new fitness coach [Andrea Bracaglia]. If I keep this level, I think I can have the chance to do great things. I don't know what to dream right now."
"Today I was dreaming to hold the trophy, but didn't well. I'm just enjoying the position where I am right now, five in the world. It's unbelievable, honestly. I just did two finals in two Grand Slams."
Barbora Krejcikova:
“It’s unreal what just happened. This is definitely the best day of my career and my life. It was such a difficult match. I was telling myself to be brave. At the end I was the lucky one. I didn’t know I could win until the very last point. I still can’t believe that I’m standing here, Wimbledon winner. How did that happen? I have no idea. The day I knocked on her door changed my life. I never really dreamed I would win the same trophy she did in 1998.”
"I am dreaming about her a lot. In the dreams we are talking. It’s very personal. I think I would turn it around. I would like to hear what she would tell me. I think she would tell me that she is very proud of me and that she’s super happy. When I was shown my name on the Wimbledon honours board right next to her, it was a very very emotional moment. The only thing that was going through my head was that I miss her a lot."
"I think she would be really excited that I’m on the same board as her because Wimbledon was super special to her. Here I think I have played the best tennis of my career. Today was very difficult, and I really had to dig deep, also mentally. I'm extremely proud that I was able to do that, to hold everything together, and to win."
"It’s unbelievable I’m a two-time major champion. On the other hand, I’m still the same person. I still love tennis very much. I still want to continue playing well and fighting for other tournaments."
"Winning a Slam in any category is an extremely great achievement. Winning this Wimbledon is huge for me. When I was 12, I had a little notebook. Three or four months ago, I looked through it. I wrote that in the future I would like to win the French Open. Things shifted a little bit when I met Jana and when she was telling me all the stories about Wimbledon, about the grass, how difficult it was for her to win the title and how emotional she was when she actually made it."
"I think since then I started to see Wimbledon like the biggest tournament in the world. It feels so good. It’s great."
