'Whole Haryana Will March To Delhi': Khap Leaders Form 21-Member Panel To Decide On Wrestlers' Protest

Leaders of Khap Panchayat have formed a 21-member committee to decide on the next steps in the wrestlers' protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh.

The leaders of Khap Panchayat on Wednesday formed a 21-member committee to decide on the future course of action in the wrestlers’ protest. The representatives of 40 Khaps in all community-Mahapanchayat took the decision. It was held in the Balali village of Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. Informing about the decision in detail, Somveer Sangwan of Sangwan Khap said that wrestler Bajrang Punia has urged them to hold the next Mahapanchayat at his place and so, they will support him and his demand. Sangwan said that everyone has to support wrestlers with body, mind and wealth.

“There should be no place for politicians in any federation in the country. In their place, only Arjuna awardee or medalist players should be there,” he added.

He went on to say, “Compromises keep happening. But it is a matter of justice. Amit Shah had said that justice will be given in a month but then did not agree on some things. If the wrestlers raise their voice in one tone, then the whole Khap, the whole of Dadri and the whole of Haryana will march to Delhi.”

“We will fight against oppression. Since the wrestlers have said that they will decide on the movement. The players will decide what the next decision will be. That's why now the 21-member committee will sit and discuss its views and give its decision,” Sangwan further said.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyawart Kadian arrived at Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur's residence days after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Notably, Thakur had invited the grapplers to discuss their "issues" with him. The wrestlers have been protesting against WFI chief Brij Bhushan with allegations of sexual harassment against him.

"The government is willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues. I have once again invited the wrestlers for the same," Thakur said in a late-night tweet.

BJP MP and WFI President Brij Bhushan is also likely to meet the minister on Wednesday only, though, there is no clarity as to when he might meet him. The wrestlers have accused him of sexual harassment and two separate FIRs have been registered against him after the intervention of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, protesting wrestler Sakshi Malik said the wrestlers would agree to the government proposal only if everyone gave their consent. "It's not that we will listen to just anything that the government says and end our protest," she told news agency ANI. "We will discuss the proposal given by the govt with our seniors and supporters. Only when everyone gives their consent that the proposal is fine, then will we agree. It won't happen that we will agree to anything that the government says and end our protest. No time fixed for the meeting yet," she said.
