Sourav Ganguly To Skip ACC Meeting Due To Coronavirus Scare

The former India captain on last Friday said Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will participate in the continental tournament

Kolkata: BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly will not attend the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dubai, scheduled for March 3, due to the coronavirus threat. Over last few days, around 730 cases of coronavirus were reported in UAE, creating panic among travelers and locals. "Ganguly was supposed to leave tonight but coronavirus scare in the UAE has led to the postponement of the meeting," a BCCI source told PTI. The former India captain on last Friday said Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will participate in the continental tournament. "Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play," Ganguly told reporters at the Eden Gardens on Friday. Pakistan was scheduled to host the Asia Cup this year but amidst tensions between the two countries and security concerns in Pakistan, the BCCI said the Indian team will not travel there. However, after Ganguly's statement, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made it clear that only the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) can decide on the venue of the tournament. "The ACC is the event authority and therefore the only competent body to shift the venue of the ACC T20 Cup scheduled in September. The ACC is meeting in Dubai on March 3 under the chairmanship of Nazmul Hassan in which it will discuss and decide on the venue, keeping in mind the interests of the associate members," the PCB official said.
