PV Sindhu beats Carolina Marin to clinch India Open Super series
New Delhi: PV Sindhu avenged her Olympic defeat by beating Spain’s Carolina Marin in straight games to clinch the India Open women’s singles title in New Delhi.
Sindhu maintained ultimate dominance to crush the Olympic champion 21-19, 21-16 in a battle of supremacy.
The Hyderabad shuttler took an early lead on both the games and did not allow her opponent a foot in the door.
Sindhu took a 5-1 lead in the first game. Marin However made a strong comeback to bring it to 17-18 but Sindhu had the last laugh by closing the first game 21-19.
The second game was particularly one sided, Marin never looked like challenging the Indian in front of her home ground, who was severe on both sides of the court.
Sindhu’s game saw a decisive change on her front foot movement, which was considered to be her weakness. She cashed in on anything lose and went hard on down the line smashes to catch Marin off-guard.
"At Dubai finals we played and I beat her but she defeated me at PBL but this time it will be at Delhi so I will have the support,’ Sindhu had said after winning the semifinal match.
