PCB Chief Ramiz Raja Considering Resigning From His Position In Wake Of Imran Khan Ouster: Report

A source told PTI that there are very less chances of Ramiz continuing as PCB chief after Imran Khan's ouster unless the new Premier wants him to stay and carry on with his duty.

New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja is considering stepping down from his post following Imran Khan's ouster as the prime minister of Pakistan, PTI reported. Ramiz, who is a close friend of Imran Khan and also a former Pakistan cricket team skipper, is currently in Dubai for the International Council of Cricket's (ICC) quarterly meeting.

"Ramiz had only agreed to become the chairman of the Board on the insistence of Imran for whom all the players who played under his captaincy including Ramiz have a lot of regard and respect," a source well aware of the developments told PTI on Sunday.

"Ramiz was well set in a career as commentator, TV personality, and expert and was busy with assignments. But on Imran's insistence he agreed to put aside all his media contacts and become chairman of the board," the source said.

"Ramiz had also made it clear to the PM that he would only remain in the Board until he (Imran Khan) was PM."

The source told PTI that there are very less chances of Ramiz continuing as PCB chief after Imran Khan's ouster unless the new Premier wants him to stay and carry on with his duty.

"If Shahbaz Sharif becomes new Premier, then there is every likelihood he might convey to Ramiz his services are no longer required and bring back Najam Sethi to head the Board," the source said.

With Imran Khan's government now ousted, it will be very interesting to see if any big changes will be made to Pakistan's cricket setup.

PTI also reported that it is highly likely that PCB might appoint Najam Sethi as the new PCB chief if Shahbaz Sharif becomes the new Premier.
