'Why Man Why': Twitter Reacts To Reports Of Ramiz Raja's Appointment As Next PCB Chief

Ramiz Raja himself has not come up with any official statement regarding all these speculations but news agency PTI has given this information quoting PCB sources.

New Delhi: The reports of former Test captain turned famous cricket commentator Ramiz Raja becoming a frontrunner in the race to become the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been circulating for some days now. Some media reports also claimed that current PCB chairman Ehsan Mani and Ramiz Raja met Prime Minister Imran Khan today.

Raja himself has not come up with any official statement regarding all these speculations but news agency PTI has given this information quoting PCB sources. As per the report, World Cup winning veteran and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who's also the patron of the board, has decided not to extend the tenure of Ehsan Mani. The final decision related to the appointments in PCB rests with Imran Khan. Mani's 3-year tenure will end on September 18.

A PCB source told PTI, “In the next few days, Prime Minister Imran Khan will send names of two candidates to the Board of Governors of the PCB for the selection of the chairman and the members will have to choose one of them as the chairman for the coveted post.”

The source also revealed that one of the names among these two candidates is of Ramiz Raja. To conduct the elections for the post of PCB chairman, the board has appointed retired judge, Azmat Sheikh, as the selection commissioner.

However, many Pakistan cricket team fans on Twitter, which also includes sports journalists, have expressed disappointment over Ramiz Raja's appointment as the next PCB chief.

Ex-Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has backed Ramiz Raja. Here's what he said:

“He hasn’t been going for commentary duties in the last couple of series and that gave us some signals for the future. A cricketer coming in as a chairman would benefit domestic cricket. It will bring in money.”

“There was a lot of talk about bringing in money by commercializing so that players get money. Ramiz (Raja) bhai coming in will benefit players financially. Maybe the teams might improve as well. Management might get better as well because he has been a captain himself,” Kamran Akmal asserted.
