Paris Olympics 2024: IT System Affected By Cyber Outage Ahead Of Opening Ceremony

Paris Olympics 2024: Even the world's biggest sports event was affected by the global cyber outage.

Paris Olympics 2024: The global outage of Microsoft has affected several services across industries. Even the Paris 2024 Olympics has not remained unaffected. The IT operations of the Paris Olympics have been hit even though the official statement issued by the organising of the world's biggest sporting event has not delved deep into how exactly were its operations affected.

"We have activated contingency plans in order to continue operations," an official statement released by the organising committee said.

"At this point, the impacts are limited and concern in particular the delivery of uniforms and accreditations," the Paris 2024 organising committee said as quoted in a Reuters report.

"Paris 2024's ticketing systems have been unaffected," it added.

Notably, the official opening ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled to take place on July 26 even though a few events will start before that.

Global Cyber Outage Due To Crowdstrike Falcon Failure

The global cyber outrage is possibly owing to the failure of the Crowdstrike Falcon which happens to be a cybersecurity platform that provides security solutions for Microsoft Windows. Even though Microsoft had said that it was fixing the issue, the disruptions have cotinued long after with several airports having to shut down operations.

As far as Team India are concerned, the sports ministry has announced a 117-member Indian contingent who will compete in the tournament. India produced its best-ever medal tally in the previous Olympic Games where they clinched 7 Olympic medals and a realistic goal is to cross the double digits in the overall medal haul this time around.
