Self-Dismissed? Ishan Kishan Walks Off Without Umpire's Call, Replays Show No Edge

Ishan Kishan walked back to the pavilion under unusual circumstances.

In the IPL 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians on April 23, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first - a decision that quickly proved effective.

Hyderabad's innings got off to a disastrous start, losing four key wickets within the first six overs.

Ishan Kishan walks off in brainfade moment

One of the most surprising moments came from Ishan Kishan, who walked back to the pavilion under unusual circumstances. Batting at No. 3, Kishan attempted a shot off Deepak Chahar in the third over.

The ball went directly into the gloves of wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton, and although there appeared to be no edge, the fielding side appealed and the umpire raised his finger. Without opting for a review, Kishan chose to walk off. Replays later confirmed that there had been no contact with the bat, making the decision even more frustrating for Sunrisers.

The early overs saw a complete top-order collapse. Travis Head departed for a duck, while Abhishek Sharma managed just 8 off 8 balls. Kishan contributed only 1 run, and Nitish Reddy fell for 2, leaving Hyderabad at 24 for 4 by the end of the powerplay.

Mumbai's pace duo of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar capitalized on the conditions perfectly, picking up two wickets each and putting Hyderabad on the back foot right from the start.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have found it difficult to mirror their batting brilliance from the last season, stumbling to five losses in their first seven matches of the 2025 campaign.

SunRisers Hyderabad's innings has continued to spiral, reaching just 110 for 5 at the end of 17 overs.

SunRisers Hyderabad have won only two of their seven league-stage matches so far, accumulating 4 points and currently sitting in 9th place on the points table. A defeat in tonight’s match against Mumbai Indians would leave them on the verge of elimination from the playoff race.
