IPL Auction 2021: Glenn Maxwell Shows Interest In Playing For RCB, Calls De Villiers His ‘Idol’

The Australian explosive batsman has expressed his desire of playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 14. Said he ‘gets along well’ with Virat Kohli and that AB is his ‘idol’.

Does the thought of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell in one team excite the RCB fans? Well if the answer is yes, then you are going to be in some anticipation come this February 18, on the IPL Auction day. Glenn Maxwell was quoted by ESPNcricinfo saying, “It'll be awesome to work with him (AB), and he's always been really helpful to me along the journey. Whenever I've caught up with him, he's been brilliant. So to be able to work with him first hand will be pretty cool."

Glenn Maxwell has played for three IPL teams before. He was in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab before. The 2014 season was like a dream for Maxwell. He was the Man of the Match in the first three matches for Kings XI Punjab, giving them the best start the franchise has ever received. He also helped 208 runs against CSK in just 18.5 overs. He was an influential player in the Punjab squad. Virender Sehwag who was the coach of KXIP for a few years also had praised Maxwell for his performance. But, in the past few years his IPL form has been dismal, to say the least.

Maxwell has hinted at his interest of playing with Virat and AB in RCB. While talking of Virat, he said, "I get along with Virat pretty well. It'll be certainly nice to work under Virat and will certainly enjoy batting with him - that's for sure."

RCB fans would be excited upon hearing this news from Maxwell that he wants to play for the star-studded side. Will that change the fortunes for Maxwell and RCB as both have been facing tough times? Only time will tell.

IPL 14 will begin from April 11 2021 and the auction is supposed to be held on February 18 2021 at 15:00.
