IPL 2025 Playoff Race: Delhi Capitals' Qualification Scenarios After DC vs SRH Abandoned Match

Here's a look at Delhi Capitals' (DC) IPL 2025 qualification scenarios after their washed out match against SRH on May 5.

Delhi Capitals (DC) will likely be the more relieved side after their IPL 2025 Match 55 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was washed out due to rain on Monday, May 5. Having managed just 133/7 and staring at a likely defeat, DC salvaged a valuable point as persistent rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium forced the match to be abandoned.

Under new captain Axar Patel in IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals have had an up-and-down season so far. With six wins to their name, they currently sit fifth on the points table. The team began the campaign on a high note with four straight victories but has struggled for consistency lately, losing four out of their last seven matches.

The washout between SRH and DC officially ended Sunrisers Hyderabad's playoff hopes in IPL 2025. With just seven points from 11 games, even if they win their remaining three matches, they can only reach 13 points—insufficient to break into the top four.

Can DC Still Qualify For IPL 2025 Playoffs?

DC, on the other hand, still have solid chances of making it to the playoffs. Following the washed-out match, DC now sit at 13 points from 11 matches, with six wins, four losses and one no-result. A solid net run rate of +0.362 gives them a slight edge in a tightly contested playoff race, but there’s little margin for error from here on.

DC have three league-stage matches left—against Punjab Kings on May 8 in Dharamsala, Gujarat Titans on May 11 at home and Mumbai Indians on May 15 at the Wankhede. With all three opponents also vying for playoff spots, these fixtures are effectively virtual quarterfinals.

Delhi Capitals' IPL 2025 Qualification Scenarios

If DC Win All 3 (Finish With 19 Points)

Three wins would take Delhi to 19 points, comfortably sealing a playoff berth and potentially putting them in contention for a Top 2 finish.

If DC Win 2 of 3 (Finish With 17 Points)

Securing two victories would bring them to 17 points, a total that historically suffices for playoff qualification. However, in this case, maintaining or improving their already healthy net run rate would be vital.

If DC Win Just 1 (Finish With 15 Points)

Winning only one more match could prove costly. With Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans already having 14 points each, Delhi could be left stuck at 15 points, potentially missing out on qualification if MI and GT win one more match.

If DC Lose All 3 (Stay on 13 Points)

A complete nosedive in the final stretch would end Delhi’s playoff hopes. With the points table so closely packed, 13 points will not be enough to stay in contention.
