With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 approaching, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been hit with an early setback. The franchise secured Australia's star all-rounder in the auction, but his participation is now in doubt due to injury.

Mitchell Marsh ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Australia has suffered a major blow ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to begin on February 19. Mitchell Marsh, who captained Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024, has been ruled out due to a back injury.

Cricket Australia (CS) confirmed that Marsh has not fully recovered despite undergoing rehab.

"Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men's Champion's Trophy with ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction," CA said in a statement today.

"The National Selection Panel and Australian men's medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament with the injury which has not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation.

"His lower back pain flared in recent weeks leading the NSP to make the longer-term decision for Marsh to complete a more extended period of rehabilitation.

"Marsh will now undergo a period of further rest and rehabilitation as part of his return to play plan.

"The NSP will meet to decide on a replacement for Marsh in due course," CA added.

IPL 2025 participation in doubt

Mitchell Marsh was signed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 3.4 crore in IPL 2025 auction, and his injury now puts his availability in question. If he fails to recover in time, LSG will need to explore alternative options.

When will IPL 2025 begin?

While an official confirmation is awaited, reports suggest that IPL 2025 is likely to start on March 23. If Marsh doesn't regain fitness soon, he could be forced to miss the entire season.
