IPL 2024: 21-Year-Old MS Dhoni Fan Who Invaded Ahmedabad Pitch Is Arrested By Gujarat Police
IPL 2024, GT vs CSK: Jaykumar Jani has been detained under Section 447 of the Indian Penal Code for intruding onto the Ahmedabad pitch in an attempt to meet MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni has been having a wonderful Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season so far as he has been striking the ball cleanly in what is fabled to be his last IPL. In Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) most recent match, he entertained the fans once again with an 11-ball 26 runs knock. However, the standout moment of the Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings IPL 2024 match occurred when a 21-year-old fan of Dhoni managed to breach all security measures to reach the pitch and touch Dhoni's feet. The individual has since been apprehended by the Gujarat Police.
The incident occurred during the final over of CSK's chase when the hosts opted for a DRS review against MS Dhoni. While the third umpire reviewed the TV replays, Jaykumar Jani, a resident of the Bhavnagar district, invaded the field of play.
On Saturday, Gujarat Police confirmed the arrest of the fan and registered a case of trespassing and illegal entry against him. Digvijay Singh Rana, the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Ahmedabad, stated that constables at the stadium detained the man, noting that his sole intention was to meet Dhoni during the game. He stated that Jaykumar Jani has been arrested under section 447 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminal trespass.
“Jani and his brother Parth travelled from Bhavnagar to watch the match. During a DRS (decision review system) break, Jani first jumped the metal barricades near the black screen and ran towards the pitch. He was quickly apprehended and taken to Chandkheda police station,” Rana said as quoted by PTI.

CSK In Must-Win Situation
In a crucial match, Gujarat defeated Chennai by 35 runs, keeping their playoffs hopes alive. GT posted a formidable total of 231 runs, fueled by centuries from openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan. CSK, in response, managed only 196/8 in 20 overs, with pacer Mohit Sharma leading GT's exceptional bowling performance with a three-wicket haul. The defeat significantly impacts CSK's playoff chances, as they currently have 12 points from 12 matches and need to win their remaining two matches to stay in contention for a top-four spot.
