IPL 2022 Mega Auction Set To Be Held On February 12 & 13 In Bengaluru

The addition of two news teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, have made the cash-rich IPL tournament a 10-team affair.

New Delhi: The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction will take place next month, on February 12 and 13, IPL Chairman Brijesh told news agency ANI. The apex cricketing board has also given formal clearance to Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises of IPL. The addition of two news teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, have made the cash-rich tournament a 10-team affair.

"Yes, a formal clearance has been given to both Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises. Both of them have been given two weeks' time to finalize their draft picks," IPL chairman Brijesh Patel told ANI.

"Yes, the auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13," said Patel.

The eight teams that already existed were allowed to retain a maximum four players ahead of the IPL 15 auction. The two new franchises have been given a time frame to draft three players each for their teams from their remaining pool of players, not retained by any of the eight franchises.

Earlier on Tuesday, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that homegrown business conglomerates TATA will replace Chinese mobile manufacturer VIVO as the main sponsor for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

"Yes, TATA will replace Vivo as the title sponsor," Patel had told ANI.

Vivo had a deal of Rs 2200 crore for IPL title sponsorship rights from 2018-2022, still has two years left in its sponsorship deal with IPL and as a result, during this period, Tata will remain the main sponsor, ANI reported.
