Not Feeling Comfortable in Delhi, Kane Williamson & Other Kiwi Cricketers Fly Out To Maldives

IPL news: All these players were originally supposed to stay in Delhi's mini bio-bubble till May 10 and take a flight to the UK ahead of the Test series in England and World Test Championship final against India from June 18.

Kane Williamson and three other New Zealand members, in a dramatic turn of events on Friday, reportedly left from Maldives in a departure from their original plan, as they were feeling insecure staying in Coroavirus hotspot Delhi.

New Zealanders Kane Williamson, Royal Challenger Bangalore's Kyle Jamison, Chennai Super King's Mitchell Santer and team physio Tommy Simsek flew back home to Maldives.

All these players were originally supposed to stay till May 10 in Delhi's mini bio-bubble and then fly to United Kingdom ahead New Zealand vs England Test series and World Test Championship final against India from June 18.

"Kane and few others from New Zealand were not feeling safe in Delhi because of the COVID situation there. That is why they decided to fly to Maldvies," a Sunrisers Hyderabad official told PTI.

Another Kiwi star Test cricketer Trent Boult left for New Zealand with the rest of the IPL contingent and will join the team in the UK after spending a week with his family.

New Zealand government has imposed a travel ban on incoming flights from India but it is allowing its citizens to return home with a mandatory two weeks quarantine.

The Australian contingent has also flown to Maldives after the suspension of the IPL as its government has banned entry of all travellers from India until May 15.

After many COVID-19 positive cases were detected in IPL bio-bubble, BCCI decided to suspend the T20 League on Tuesday.

New Zealand will play Test series on England tour.  Apart from this, on June 18, the Kiwi team will also play the final of the World Test Championship against India.
