Team India Head Coach Ravi Shastri Tests Positive For Covid-19, Isolated
Bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding Coach R. Sridhar, and physiotherapist Nitin Patel isolated too. BCCI says all four will not travel with Team India until confirmation from the medical team.
New Delhi: Indian cricket team's head coach Ravi Shastri has tested positive for Covid-19. He has been sent into isolation by the BCCI medical team as a precautionary measure.
Bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding Coach R. Sridhar, and physiotherapist Nitin Patel have been isolated too, after coach Shastri’s lateral flow test returned positive on Saturday evening.
A press release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the four members of Team India's support staff have undergone RT-PCR testing and will not travel with the team until confirmation from the medical team. They will remain in the team hotel, BCCI said in the statement.
The remaining members of the Team India contingent underwent two lateral flow tests — one last night and another this morning. The members upon getting negative Covid reports were allowed to proceed for Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test at The Oval.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing India vs England Oval Test match, star batsmen Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara's stitched a solid 153-run partnership for the second wicket to put their team in a dominant position on Day 3 of Ind vs Eng 4th Test.
India's scorecard read 270/3 at stumps — a lead of 171 runs with seven wickets in the bag in the second essay. At the end of day's play, skipper Virat Kohli (22*) and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (9*) remained unbeatne at the crease.
The five-match Test series is currently level with both teams having won one match each.
