'You Are Hurt But...': Sunil Gavaskar Makes Stinging Remark On Shubman Gill In Indore Test

Shubman Gill did something during Ind vs Aus 3rd Test in Indore that left cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar fuming.

Rohit Sharma & Co. are struggling in IND vs AUS 3rd Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series being played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Opting to bat first, Indian batters were rocked by remarkable spells from Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann, as the hosts were bundled out for just 109 in first innings.

One of the biggest talking points of Indore Test is young talent Shubman Gill replacing under-fire KL Rahul in India XI. However, Gill did something during the match that left cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar fuming.

It was the 7th over of the Indian innings and Rohit Sharma had returned to the pavilion after being dismissed. Cheteshwar Pujara was at the crease with Gill. In this over, bowled by Mitchell Starc, Gill wanted to take a quick single off the fourth ball of this over but Pujara refused, leaving Gill with no option but to dive to reach inside the crease and during this he got hurt below his abdomen.

After this, the match had to be paused for some time as Gill called in physio for help.

Seeing this, Gavaskar, who was commentating during the match said, "We're seeing a little bit of repair work for Shubman Gill. He had dived to make his crease but I tell you what. This could have waited. This could have waited till the end of the over. There is a fast bowler who is bowling - he has bowled 4 deliveries; it's hot - and you've given him a breather. Yes, you are hurt but wait for 2 more deliveries. Wait for the over to finish and get treated. You're at the non-striker's end, you're not at the striker's end. Simple things can make a difference."

Former Australia batter Matthew Hayden, who was commentating alongside Gavaskar said, "You're a harsh man, Sunny. That's a real stinger." But, Gavaskar held his ground and remained firm on his words and replied, "Yes, it is but listen you are playing for your country. Just 2 more deliveries. You're at the non-striker's. I can understand if you're taking strike and you've got that discomfort. And he's done that after 2 deliveries."

Gill, who was benched in first Two Test against Australia, was dismissed for 21 by Matthew Kuhnemann.
