Dilip Vengsarkar Elected ICA's Male Representative In BCCI Apex Council

Ex-India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar now joins 1983 team world Cup winning teammate Roger Binny in the BCCI.

New Delhi: Indian cricket team's former captain and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar on Saturday was elected as the Indian Cricketers’ Association’s male representative on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) apex council. Vengsarkar defeated former India batter Ashok Malhotra 402-230 in the ICA elections that took place online from October 27-29. The 116-Test veteran now joins 1983 team world Cup winning teammate Roger Binny in the BCCI. Ex-India spinner Pragyan Ojha will continue to represent in the India Premier League (IPL) governing council.

"I would like to thank the former cricketers who voted for me and I will always try to have a better coordination between ICA and the BCCI," Vengsarkar exclusively told Times of India (TOI).

Who is Dilip Vengsarkar?

Vengsarkar was born in Maharashtra's Rajapur on 6th April, 1956. He made his international debut in 1975-76 against New Zealand and his career lasted for over 16 years, during which he played many memorable innings for India. However, Vengsarkar's three Test centuries at Lord's remain to be the highlight for his cricketing career. Till date, Vengsarkar is the only visiting batter who has scored three Test tons at Lords'. He was a member of the Kapil Dev-led 1983 World Cup winning Indian team.

Dilip Vengsarkar played a Test match for the first time at Lord's in 1979. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, but in the second innings he made a strong comeback and scored 103 runs. After this, in the year 1982, he played innings of 2 and 157 runs at Lords', scoring his second Test ton at the venue. Then in the year 1986, Vengsarkar scored an unbeaten 126 and 33, completing his third Test ton at the venue.
