India Women Vs Aus Women 1st ODI: Litchfield, Perry Guide Australia Past India
Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry scored impressive half-centuries as Australia Women defeat India by 6 wickets in the first ODI.
India Women Vs Australia Women 1st ODI: A resilient Australian Women side saw off the challenge from the Indian Women side in the first One-Day International of the three-match ODI series as they defeated them by 6 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
India Women got off to a rough start when Shefali Verma was dismissed within 3 overs after her dismissal, followed short partnerships and India Women were in deep trouble when they saw themselves reeling at 182/7 in 37.4 overs. What once looked like a hardly-reaching 240 innings was soon bashed off after a resilient Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar notched up a partnership of 68 off 54 balls. Jemimah scored 82 before her dismissal off Ashley Gardner and Pooja stayed unbeaten on 62 as the late surge saw India put up their highest ever ODI total against India, by finishing at 282/8 after 50 overs.
Things got better for India as they dismissed Australian skipper Alyssa Healy within the first over as Sneh Rana took a blinder of a catch off Renuka Thakur as the Australian skipper went without troubling the scorers. However, the modern great Ellyse Perry and Phoebe Litchfield tilted the momentum in their favour as they went on to register a 148-run stand inside 25 overs before Deepti Sharma got rid of the Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry on an inidvidual score of 75. However, it was too late of a breakthrough for India as the platform was already set by Perry and Litchfield as Beth Mooney and Tahila McGrath carry forwarded the momentum. Litchfield got out on the score of 78 and grabbed the Man of the Match award for her excellent knock. Mooney couldn't finish the game for Australia Women as she got bowled by Pooja Vastrakar on 42 and Tahila and Gardner saw the Aussies off for a six-wicket win with 21 balls left as they take an all-important 1-0 lead into the next ODI to be played at the very same venue on December 30.
