Salman Khan's Sikandar Leaked Online Ahead Of Theatrical Release, Authorities Remove Pirated Version From 600 Sites

Piracy hit again on Sunday as Salman Khan's highly anticipated Eid release, ‘Sikandar’, was leaked online just hours before its official release.

Piracy hit again on Sunday as Salman Khan's highly anticipated Eid release, ‘Sikandar’, was leaked online just hours before its official release. Although the film was set to be released on Sunday, it appeared on illegal websites late Saturday night. Authorities quickly took down the pirated version from several sites.

Salman Khan's Sikandar leaked online

Despite strict anti-piracy laws, piracy remains a major issue for Bollywood. In Sikandar's case, the leak likely started with camcorder recordings in theaters, which were quickly upgraded to HD and uploaded online.

Film trade analyst Komal Nahta took to Twitter on Sunday morning, "It’s the worst nightmare for any producer. A film being leaked before its theatrical release. Unfortunately, that’s what happened last evening to Sajid Nadiadwala’s ‘Sikandar’, slated to release today in cinemas."

Nahta further mentioned that the film’s producers, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, urged authorities to take action against the leak, leading to the film being removed from hundreds of websites.

"The producer had the authorities pull the film down from 600 sites last night but the harm had been done. The multiplication continued and is still continuing. Condemnable act which could cost the producer of the Salman starrer dear," he wrote.

Sikandar review

The ABP Live review of the film reads: This film feels like any regular South Indian movie — nothing new here. Salman is once again set up to fight goons, with the same old tropes we’ve seen for years. The film struggles to convince the audience; Salman, the great king, has a police officer informing him about threats to his wife. Isn’t the king supposed to have better protection? The film doesn’t manage to hold your attention. In today’s world, where amazing films are available on OTT platforms, this movie feels outdated. If it had been released 10 years ago, it might have felt impressive. But now, with the world’s content at our fingertips, this film feels stale, old, and underwhelming.

‘Sikandar’, directed by AR Murugadoss, marks Salman Khan's return to the big screen after 2023. The film also features Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Sharman Joshi in key roles. It hit theatres on March 30.
