IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma On Cusp Of Surpassing Sachin Tendulkar In Elite ODI Record
As Rohit Sharma gears up for the IND vs ENG ODI series, the Indian skipper will have his eyes set on a prestigious ODI record, aiming to surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s milestone.

India and England are set to now face-off in a three-match ODI series. India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, won the T20I series by 4-1 and will look to replicate the feat in ODIs as well. Rohit Sharma will be back leading the Men in Blue in ODIs and the Indian team will see the return of Virat Kohli as well. Rohit, who last played an ODI in August last year, is also close to surpassing Sachin Tendulkar in an elite record list.
Rohit has been facing horrible form with the bat and will look to put the ghosts of the past to rest in the IND vs ENG ODIs. He was last seen in India colours in Melbourne for the fourth India vs Australia Test, back in December. And his last white-ball engagement came way back in August when India lost a three-match ODI series to Sri Lanka by 2-0.
Rohit Sharma Closes In On 11,000 ODI Runs
India and England will face-off in the first IND vs ENG ODI at Nagpur on February 6 (Thursday) and Rohit will have a major ODI record in sight. Rohit Sharma is just 134 runs shy of reaching 11,000 runs in ODIs. If he achieves this milestone within the next 19 innings, the 37-year-old will become the second-fastest player to do so, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar and trailing only Virat Kohli in the list of quickest batters to reach the mark in the ODIs.
Rohit Sharma currently has 10,866 runs in 257 ODI innings. Virat Kohli holds the record as the fastest to reach 11,000 ODI runs, achieving the milestone in just 222 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar is second, having reached the mark in 276 innings.
Fastest Batters To 11000 ODI Runs
1 - Virat Kohli: 222 innings
2 - Sachin Tendulkar: 276 innings
3 - Ricky Ponting: 286 innings
4 - Sourav Ganguly: 288 innings
5 - Jacques Kallis: 293 innings
Meanwhile, the Indian skipper is closing in on another milestone, needing just two more centuries to reach 50 international hundreds. Rohit will become only the third Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, to achieve this feat and the 10th player overall to reach the landmark.
