Ravindra Jadeja's Miss Gives Duckett A Lifeline, India Pay The Price
It was a straightforward chance, and with Jadeja known as one of the best fielders in world cricket, it looked like a certain wicket.

After posting a formidable 471 runs in the first innings, India looked firmly in control of the Headingley Test.
England lost opener Zak Crawley in the very first over to Jasprit Bumrah, and the visitors seemed well on top. However, a crucial dropped catch by Ravindra Jadeja gave England a much-needed lifeline — one that Ben Duckett made the most of.
Jadeja’s Costly Error Shifts Momentum
With England at 39/1, Duckett — batting on 15 — edged a Bumrah delivery towards point.
It was a straightforward chance, and with Jadeja known as one of the best fielders in world cricket, it looked like a certain wicket. But surprisingly, Jadeja failed to hold on, allowing Duckett to survive. That moment proved to be a turning point, as Duckett went on to build a solid partnership with Ollie Pope, steering England out of early trouble.

Indian Fielding Under the Spotlight
Jadeja wasn’t the only culprit. There were misfields from Shubman Gill and even Bumrah, adding to India's woes. The missed chances not only hurt India’s momentum but also impacted the bowlers’ rhythm. As of now, England have reached 97/1, with Duckett and Pope looking increasingly confident.
India will need to break this partnership quickly to wrest back control.
Collapse After Gill's Dismissal
India were in a commanding position at 430/3 in the first innings of the Headingley Test, with centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant setting the stage for a massive total. However, what followed was a dramatic collapse, as the visitors lost their remaining seven wickets for just 41 runs, getting bowled out for 471.
Expectations were high for a 600-plus score, but the momentum shifted once Shubman Gill (147) was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir. The rest of the batting order crumbled under pressure. Karun Nair was dismissed for a four-ball duck. Ravindra Jadeja added only 11 runs, and Shardul Thakur managed just 1. The lower order failed to resist England’s comeback.
England, who had struggled to find breakthroughs early on, came roaring back. Captain Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue led the charge with 4 wickets each, while Shoaib Bashir and Brydon Carse picked up one apiece.
England now have an opportunity to make a strong comeback in this Test.
