Hosts India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after successfully chasing England's target of 248 runs in 38.4 overs.
England opted to bat first after winning the toss. The visitors were bowled out for 248 runs in 47.4 overs. Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell were the top scorers, both registering half-centuries. For India, Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja impressed with three wickets each, while Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Axar Patel chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Strong start but middle-order collapse
England began well with an opening partnership of 75 runs between Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. However, Salt's ambitious attempt for a third run led to a run-out, courtesy of sharp fielding by Shreyas Iyer. Harshit Rana then struck twice in the same over, dismissing Duckett (32 off 29 balls) and Harry Brook, who failed to open his account.
Joe Root, returning to ODIs after a long gap, struggled to find rhythm and was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 19 off 31 balls, leaving England's middle order under pressure.
Buttler and Bethell stabilize, but India hits back
England captain Jos Buttler tried to steady the innings with a well-compiled 52 off 67 balls, including four boundaries, but fell to Axar Patel. Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell fought hard, scoring 51 off 64 balls before becoming Jadeja's victim.
Harshit Rana continued his brilliant debut, removing Liam Livingstone for just five runs. Mohammed Shami then dismissed Brydon Carse (10 runs), while Jadeja accounted for Adil Rashid (8 runs). Kuldeep Yadav wrapped up the innings by dismissing Saqib Mahmood.
Jofra Archer's late flourish in vain
Jofra Archer remained unbeaten with a quick 21 off 18 balls, smashing three fours and a six. However, his late cameo wasn't enough as England's innings ended at 248.
