Shocking Stats: Rohit Sharma's Struggles In 2024 Leave India Worried

While Rohit Sharma has led India to success in shorter formats, including a T20 World Cup win this year, his performance in Tests has been underwhelming.

The second Test of IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide saw Rohit Sharma's struggles in red-ball cricket continue. Returning to Indian squad after missing the first Test due to birth of his second child, Rohit's comeback was far from ideal. The Indian captain managed just 3 runs off 23 balls before being trapped LBW by Australia's rising bowling star Scott Boland.

Rohit Sharma's disappointing stats in Test cricket

While Rohit Sharma has led India to success in shorter formats, including a T20 World Cup win this year, his performance in Tests has been underwhelming.

Since the start of India's domestic season in September, Rohit has managed only one fifty in 11 Test innings, with a shocking average of 12.36. For a player of his caliber, these numbers highlight a huge dip in form.

In first Test of five-match IND vs AUS Test series in Perth, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the batting and stitched together a brilliant 201-run partnership in the second innings, giving India a solid foundation.

Acknowledging their success, Rohit stepped down from his regular opening spot in IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide, batting at number six instead. However, the move did not help him rediscover his form, as he once again fell cheaply.

Rohit still has a chance to regain his rhythm

Despite his recent slump, Rohit still has a chance to regain his rhythm in the ongoing five-match series against Australia. With three Tests remaining, the Indian captain has ample time to work on his game and contribute to the team's cause.

Rohit Sharma had shown intent during a practice match against Prime Minister's XI in Canberra, but the lack of runs continues to be a concern. As IND vs AUS Test series progresses, India will be hoping for their leader to rise to the occasion.
