BCCI To Decide Rahul Dravid's Tenure As Head Coach After IND vs SA Series: Report
Just a day before declaring India’s squad, the BCCI decided to extend Dravid’s contract as the head coach of the men's senior team.
The former India cricketer Rahul Dravid is set to take the coaching duties again for the Indian cricket team for another season but then the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn't finalised a long-term contract for Dravid. Under the coaching of Dravid, the Indian team who finished as runners-up in the 2023 edition of the World Cup is now set to play against South Africa for a two-Test series as part of their World Test Championship (WTC) campaign.
Just a day before declaring India’s squad, the BCCI decided to extend Dravid’s contract as the head coach of the men's senior team. Earlier, Dravid took the onus after replacing former head coach Ravi Shastri in 2021. Under Dravid’s coaching, the Indian team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup last year. The Indian team also managed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home before playing against Australia in the final of WTC earlier this year.
While talking to the reporters after the conclusion of the World Cup, head coach Dravid said that he has not signed a contract with the BCCI. He also added that he had talks about his tenure with the board and he will sign the contract once he receives the papers from the BCCI.
As per the PTI, the BCCI is yet to finalise the contract of Rahul Dravid.
"We have given the extension but we are yet to finalise the contract. We did not get time at all, they finished (with the World Cup). I had a meeting with them (Dravid & Co.) and we agreed mutually that they will continue. We will sit down and decide once they return from South Africa," said BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
"We will launch the new National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and the new academies in Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir at the same time in mid-August. The work on Jammu and Kashmir academy has started," Shah added.
